I spent 2 weeks in Bubion learning the flamenco from Paula. The first week was with my husband and we learned the Sevillana. And the next week was to learn the footwork. It was fantastic to learn the Flamenco in the heart of Andalusia where it all started. Paula is a wonderful and patient teacher who also speaks fluent English. She took me for a Flamenco show to the neighbouring village which was outstanding. There are also wonderful treks around Bubion! Ask Paula for more details.

Paula is an exceptional and inspiring flamenco teacher. Over the course of a week, we gained invaluable insight into the deep connection between dance movement and flamenco musical rhythm. As beginners, we were thrilled to build confidence in a Tango routine under her expert guidance. A true highlight of our stay was experiencing Paula’s sold-out flamenco performance, accompanied by outstanding guitar and singer artistry—it was mesmerizing.
Additionally, we had the privilege of observing one of her classes for local women, which was an incredibly uplifting experience. Paula’s warmth, encouragement, and engaging teaching style make learning with her an absolute joy. She is not only a phenomenal dancer but also a wonderful person to be around.
Our accommodation, above the dance studio, was a beautiful traditional Berber dwelling, typical of the Alpujarra villages. It was incredibly comfortable, equipped with everything we needed, and offered breathtaking views from the rooms, along with a sunny outdoor terrace perfect for relaxing.
Throughout our stay, we enjoyed delicious meals at local restaurants, explored nearby Capileira on foot, and embarked on a memorable horse-riding trek through the stunning mountains behind the village. Paula and her family were wonderfully welcoming during our stay.
I cannot recommend Paula’s flamenco school highly enough—she is transforming the Alpujarras into a destination for learning flamenco for visitors seeking an authentic experience and a welcoming community. This was my first visit to the Alpujarra mountain villages, but it certainly won’t be my last.
Geweldige show gezien vandaag. Ontzettend veel passie.
We had the privilege of attending a truly authentic flamenco performance at Flamenco La Fuente, in Bubion, a charming village of Las Alpujarras, a surprising find in such a secluded location. The show took place in a small, cozy room, creating an intensely intimate setting where we were only centimetres away from the dancers. This close proximity allowed us to feel every beat and every ounce of passion from the performers, making the experience incredibly raw and electrifying.
The spontaneity of the performance was evident; it felt like an unscripted celebration of flamenco's soul, capturing the true spirit of this traditional art. We felt like insiders witnessing something rare and genuine, far removed from the usual tourist shows.
I had a transformative and healing experience at this school, a special gem tucked into the mountainside. The instruction was personal, tender and fun and the compliment of a mother-daughter teaching team deepened the impact of the lessons. The space was beautifully conducive to focused learning, with a gorgeous landscape for greater reflection and a small quiet village in which you can find most things you might need. I am so grateful to Paula for her generosity, care, playfulness and passion, which she brings into all her teaching. I can’t wait to go back again.
100% recommend for anyone interested in a “Flamenco retreat.” My package included four nights in Casa de Solea (above the studio), four days of private classes (8 hours total), an ayurvedic massage, dinner with Paula, and transportation from the Granada airport.
The accommodations were amazing. You have a full kitchen with pots, pans, plates… you can buy food from the local supermarket and cook for yourself. There are two bedrooms, wifi, a TV with Netflix abilities, a terrace… the home is a traditional Alpujarreñan home with wooden beams and everything. It’s several hundred years old.
The food in this area is so affordable and the portions are huge. Paula recommends El Teide in Bubion - I agree it was a great place to eat.
When I wasn’t taking classes, I spent my time walking around Bubion and between Bubion and the other towns nearby. I spent my first day doing the Ruta de las Fuentes in Bubion. It’s a great way to get familiar with the streets and is a fun scavenger hunt. Another day I spent walking to Capileira and exploring there (Paula’s dad has a leather store there!). Another to Pampaneira and back (this was a steeper hike!). You can take weaving workshops in Bubion and in Pampaneira, but you should plan this in advance (in Pampaneira they only do classes in the winter).
Paula and her mom Cristina treat you like family. They provide food recommendations, activity suggestions, and even invited me to their home. I truly feel like I connected with them on a personal level, which makes the experience all the more special.
To top it all off - all of what I described comes at a super reasonable price (for me, €660 + €70 for the car service). I’m sure price varies depending on what you choose to include.
A great week of flamenco, fun and hard work. Thanks to Paula and Christina I got the feeling of this beautiful dance.
Flamenco La Fuente is a hidden gem nestled in the breath-taking Alpujarras. I took a week of flamenco lessons with Paula who's a fantastic and warm hearted teacher. Paula explained things to me so well and gave me tons of valuable tips for improving my dance. The classes were well paced and took me just to the edge of my comfort zone so I was challenged but just to the right amount. I'm so happy I found this flamenco holiday, it's been amazing!
Het was een geweldige belevenis mijn eerste kennismaking met de flamenco. Paula was warm, geduldig en met veel passie gaf ze mij les in deze krachtige, heel vrouwelijke en waardige dans. Ik kom zeker terug.
Paula and her mother Cristina were both gracious and accommodating hosts and excellent teachers. Highly recommend for students of all levels seeking to begin or deepen their flamenco journey, while experiencing the magnificence of the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the distinct charms of an Alpujarran village. If you can, stay in the apartment above the studio - what a treat!
Aprendí y disfruté mucho y por eso este año repito la experiencia
